As the War of 1812 approached, the Creek Indian Nation was in the middle of a civil war. They fought brutally between themselves, as well as with the white settlers who were encroaching upon tribal land. After years of conflict with the white man, warrior Tafv Hokkolen began to realize a new strategy would be needed to crush the wave of settlers. He believed he could frighten them off Creek land and allow them to live to spread the word.
It was during this time Elly’s family moved to the eastern Mississippi Territory for the promise of low-cost land and fertile soil. She had no idea they were moving into Creek territory - into the middle of a hornet’s nest. Tafv’s band of warriors taunted them, stealing their property, killing their animals, and destroying their livelihood. Just when the family thought things couldn’t get any worse, during one of the Indian raids as Elly’s husband chased the Indians away from the farm, Tafv’s young son was killed in the pursuit. Tafv vowed revenge against Elly’s family, and a final showdown was imminent.
"Elly Hays" is based on the real-life story of Elizabeth Hays Rodgers and is the epic clash between a fearless warrior with nothing to lose and a young mother on the verge of losing everything.

This is based on a true story which is interesting. It is the story of the clash between native american's and white people in the early 1800's. I found the author's telling of the story interesting and I am sure a lot of research must have gone into the book. It covers a period in tome when the creek Indians were trying to protect their land, but homesteaders kept coming in. Following Jack and Sarah and their family, i think they had nine children, as they move west and the confrontations begin and the lives of all involved are changed forever by death and injuries. Good job reliving a piece of history.Product details

Elly Hays edition by Lori Crane Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
The fact that this story is about real people is interesting for those of us who like to read about true historical people and enter into whist life was like in their time period and place. Simple reading. Would be a great read for school age children to help them understand our history.
saved for a rainy day read......
I enjoyed reading this book. The book is based on the author's ancestors which increased the depth and character development. The research done to write the book was evident in the information on the Native Americans and overall the book was good historical fiction.
LC writes of a time of great turmoil and upheaval for the Iroquois Nation. The tribes had begun to realize the movements of the white man were a quiet war beginning. The white man utilized every hidden agenda to cause extreme hardship for a nation over a thousand years old. This novel presents the story from the Indian side...A good read.....ER
Lovely story plenty of history a book that couldnt be put down had to finish in one night. Very beautifully written loved the ending just a shame it ended the way it, it didnt end the way I thought and the story went in a different direction I didnt expect it to and I was shocked to find out what connection the author had to the family. I really didnt expect that at the end. This author should turn these books into movies.
A wonderful story of courage and the stubborn determination of James Hays and the love and endurance of his wife Elly. As they struggle to create a farm for their large family, a small village of Creek Indians tries to scare the white family and force them into leaving what they consider to be their territory. The story reveals the pain of the losses the Indian warrior suffers and his respect for both red and white human life.
"Elly Hays" by Lori Crane is an excellent, quick read novel dealing with the challenges a white family faces when they move & build on Creek Indian territory land. The year is 1812, and there is much unrest when the Rodgers family move from Tennessee to Indian Territory in Mississippi.
Over the next few years, the story describes the dramatic ways of the Creek Indians trying to run the Rodgers family from their land, including slaughtering of animals, destroying crops, scalping a child, burning their homestead, and murder.
Ms. Crane has written this book from her personal ancestry records with all the drama and intensity of the time. Like her other books prior, "Elly Hays" will pull you in and leave you wanting more.
