Josephus was a Jewish historian who helped prepare Galilee for the revolt against Rome in 66 A.D. In 67, he checked the advance of Vespasian, the Roman general who would soon be emperor, defending the fortress of Jotapata for forty-seven days before surrendering. He would probably have been killed, but he prophesied that Vespasian would someday become emperor. The general spared his life, and Josephus adopted his captor's family name, Flavius.
He continued to enjoy imperial patronage under Vespasian's son Titus and later Domitian, living in Rome and writing his voluminous works, which include Wars of the Jews, Antiquities of the Jews, an autobiography, and Against Apion, a defense of the Jews against the Greek grammarian Apion.

The War of the Jews by Flavius Josephus is definitely history, but presented in a very archaic way. Some unidentified somebody makes notes at the end of each section clarifying some passages and occasionally referring to passages in the Christian Bible. The style is that of early 19th Century English in that there are commonly run-on sentences, separated by a variety of punctuation not including periods, that go on for pages. The verbiage is frequently archaic and tedious to the modern reader. A prior knowledge of the historical period is a definite plus. In spite of its shortcomings, this is an often cited first hand history of the period. Not recommended for the casual reader.Product details

Wars of the Jews edition by Flavius Josephus Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
By CI Johnstone...Well..It turns out to be written for 19th century children...the facts are no doubt there, but it is history aimed at a 12 year old girl.
The print is too small, making it difficult to read. Thank you. The margins were too close to the binding.
Pure history worth knowing
AWESOME book, the Jewish History
I purchased this book as a gift for one of my husband's congregants (my husband is a Rabbi). My husband wrote a touching inscription inside the cover and presented it to him recently. The gentleman, who is a Jewish history buff, was thrilled with this book and marveled at its elegant leather cover. I'm sure that soon I will learn of the revelations he's made reading this thought provoking edition.
Very interesting, but a little difficult to read smoothly.
Excellent
